Impact of Rising Tungsten steel Prices on the Cold Forming Industry

Since the second half of last year, tungsten steel prices have been rising continuously, which has had a significant impact on the cold forming industry.

As is well known, tungsten steel is mainly used for the die cores in cold forming tooling. This is especially true for customized (non-standard) parts, where each product typically requires a dedicated set of tooling. As a result, the continuous increase in tungsten steel prices has directly driven up tooling costs.

This also raises a practical question: 

 Who should bear the increased cost — the supplier or the customer?

From an industry perspective, this is more reasonably a shared responsibility. At the same time, we are actively taking measures to minimize the impact on our customers, rather than simply passing on all the additional costs:

• Optimizing cold forming processes to improve material utilization
• Adjusting production planning to ensure stable lead times
• Absorbing part of the cost increase within a reasonable range
