The anchorage wedge is the core component of the anchorage system in prestressed concrete structures. Its functions and working principles can be summarized as follows:


Anchorage Function


• Through the cone-shaped wedging principle, the wedge works together with the anchorage plate to firmly lock the steel strands. During tensioning, the wedge is drawn into the conical hole of the anchorage plate by the elastic retraction of the steel strand, forming a self-anchoring unit.
• The stress is transmitted through the frictional resistance between the wedge and the strand, ensuring the prestressing load is evenly distributed to the concrete structure.

Structural Composition

• As one of the four main components of the anchorage system (anchorage plate, wedge, bearing plate, and spiral reinforcement), the wedge is in direct contact with the steel strand and bears the main gripping force.
• Multi-hole wedge designs can anchor multiple strands simultaneously, forming a high-capacity multi-strand anchorage system.

Performance Characteristics
• Independent anchorage unit design: the failure of a single strand does not affect the overall performance, allowing for localized re-tensioning or maintenance.
• Suitable for high-strength steel strands — due to the small contact area, the wedge must possess high hardness and anti-slip performance.

Application Scenarios

• Widely used in bridges, buildings, and other prestressed concrete structures, especially in large-capacity tensioning or thin-section components (such as hollow slab beams), where flat anchorage wedges are commonly employed.
